Mysuru, May 11, 2020: “By writing Shadakshari Mahamantra a million times the 22nd Pontiff of Sri Suttur Math Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahaswamiji earned a permanent place in the hearts of people as ‘Mantra Maharshi,” opined Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the present pontiff of the Sri Suttur Math.
He graced the occasion of a programme organised at the Sri Suttur Math, at the foothills of Chamundi in Mysuru on May 10, 2020, as part of the 135th Jayanthi celebrations of Mantra Maharshi Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahaswamiji’s, the 22nd pontiff of Suttur Math. “He was ascetic, tolerant, a yogi and a disciplinarian. He supported Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s works wholeheartedly. He brought the administration process of the Srimath to streamline. He was the one who dedicated the resources of the math for the welfare of students who sought education,” he said.
“Upon the request made by the Mantra Maharshi, Maharajah of Mysuru Sri Jayachamarendra Wodeyar renovated the Someshwara Temple that was built by the Cholas at Suttur Srikshetra and other temples. Pujya Mantra Mahrashi conserved the inscriptions and scriptures. He shouldered the responsibility of the Srimath at a very tender age and took it in the right direction. He was also interested in agriculture. He used to involve in agricultural activities himself and encourage the farmers, his spiritual achievement is immense. As a result of moulding and gifting a person like Paramapujya Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamii to the society, it has been possible for the Suttur Srimath to be known for what it is today. Hence, we need to adopt and follow their ideals in our lives,” he added.
In his address Sri Basavalinga Deshikendra Swamiji, Gurukula Saadhaka of the Srimath opined that the Mantra Maharshi was a person with a mother’s heart. “His life is ideal for all of us. We should all walk in the path left to us by them. We should try to find god in the guru.”
Sri Ravi Rechamballi of the Srimath said, “Guru and mother play a significant role in our lives. It is our blessing for witnessing both the days simultaneously. It is our fortune for getting the auspicious opportunity of observing jayanthi celebrations of both of them. It has been possible for the Srimath to grow to such heights because of the valuable contributions of him.”
Special puja was offered at the shrine at Suttur Srikshetra early in the morning on May 10. All the staff of the Srimath were present.
